The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain, warning of possible flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday. The warning covers Wales, the West Country and parts of the Midlands and North West England.
The forecasters say a spell of heavy and persistent rain is expected to move north across western Britain during Tuesday into early Wednesday. The Met Office says it is unclear where the heaviest rain will fall, but 20-40mm is expected "fairly widely". Some areas could see as much as 50-75mm of rain, it warns.
The Met Office says flooding of some homes and businesses is possible, with journeys by road and rail likely to take longer.
There is also a chance of some interruption to power supplies and other services.
The yellow weather warning stretches some 260 miles from Lizard Point, the most southerly point of the UK mainland, to as far north as Seaforth on Merseyside.
The warning is being described as medium likelihood but low impact.
People are being encouraged to check if their properties could be at risk of flooding. More advice can be found on the Met Office's website.
