There’s quite a generation gap between GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes, 65, and his 31-year-old co-host Ellie Costello. Ellie who married fiancé Gerard Durkan in London on April 12, says she “grew up watching Eamonn on telly”, while the former This Morning anchor expressed some puzzlement at the mini-dress she chose for her nuptials.
Eamonn wasn’t invited to the wedding, which was an intimate friends-and-family celebration at Chelsea Old Town Hall, but said: “Notice she wore a short dress, I’d have never thought of that. But then she’s going to do it all again in the summer and it’ll be a big affair and a big party in the sunshine. It’s excellent news."
Meanwhile, Ellie expressed her delight at having scored her GB News job alongside the veteran broadcaster. She told the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden: “I love working with Eamonn, I grew up watching him on telly, so to be sat alongside him is a pinch-myself moment.”
Ellie, who wore an elegant long-sleeved, button-detail ivory Meshki mini dress for the civil ceremony, said: “We had the most beautiful, intimate civil ceremony with our families. We're now looking forward to our religious wedding in the summer in the south of France.”
Ellie announced her engagement to Gerard in November 2023. She posted a photo to Instagram, showing off her engagement ring, with the caption: "There's so little good news in the world right now... I hope you don't mind me sharing some of my own. I said YES."
Meanwhile, Eamonn has had some drama in his own life, announcing his split from Ruth Langsford after 14 years of marriage in May 2024. Eamonn has recently suffered a series of health difficulties as he required spinal surgery and a double hip replacement which he said has left him “basically disabled.”
While he found new love with new girlfriend Katie Alexander, he says he’s found it difficult to spend as much time with her as he’d like. A friend of the 42-year-old counsellor had said she was "totally smitten" with Eamonn and stressed that "she’s in it for the long haul".
However, with Katie living in West Yorkshire – around 200 miles from Eamonn’s South-West London home – and having two teenage children as well as a demanding career as a counsellor, she doesn’t always have time to pop down to the capital.
Unfortunately, Eamonn’s mobility issues mean that he’s not always able to hop on a train up to Yorkshire. However, despite the practical limitations onboard their relationship the couple reportedly remain “optimistic” that things will work out in the long term.
