The UK is bracing for wintry weather with a 200-mile wall of snow forecast to hit. New maps from WX Charts, which uses data from MetDesk, forecast the snow to arrive on Wednesday, April 9, also bringing cold temperatures.
The heaviest snow is expected to fall in western Scotland, with the maps showing a wall of snow spanning from Greenock to Inverness. According to WX Charts, the white stuff will arrive at 6am and fall at a rate of up to 2cm per hour.
The maps also show snow hitting parts of northern England at the same time. The wintry weather is expected to clear in England by midday on April 9 but will remain in Scotland for the whole day.
As well as the snowfall, temperatures are set to drop towards freezing. The mercury will fall to 0C in parts of Scotland at 6am on April 9.
Meanwhile, northern England will see temperatures as low as 1C at the same time. By 6pm in the evening, the temperature will be 1C in Inverness and 3C in the north of England.
According to the Met Office long-range forecast for the UK, which covers April 9, the nation is set for some "cold nights" as "slow-moving" weather patterns develop. The forecaster is also expecting "wetter" and "unsettled" weather in the south of the UK.
WX Charts shows a deluge of rain hitting the UK at 12pm on April 9. The wet weather will hit Manchester, Brimingham, Cardiff, Southampton and Plymouth.
The South West region will get the worst of the rain, with up to 5mm expected to fall in Plymouth. Most of the downpours will then clear by 6pm.
Early mist and fog patches will gradually clear in the south. Some bright spells near the south coast today, but generally cloudy across southern England and Wales with a few spots of drizzle. Drier across the north with warm sunshine.
Cloud and drizzle will gradually clear the southeast this evening, followed by a dry night with largely clear skies and a patchy frost. Fog patches possible in England.
Dry for many with plenty of warm sunny spells. Thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain will move into northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland later in the afternoon.
A band of rain will gradually move across the UK through Thursday and Friday, with cooler weather and scattered showers following. Further rain possible in the west on Saturday.
