Described as the "adventure capital of the UK", a visit to the Lake District is a great destination for explorers craving a more active holiday this year. When visiting the Lake District for the first time, which spans over 912 square miles, where should you visit first?

One of the most popular starting points is Windermere, which is home to the largest lake across the park. Spreading across 10.5 miles and 219 feet deep, there's lots of space for boating activities and water sports on the beautiful lake. Lake Windermere is a great place for canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and rowing; then there's the cruise for a more leisurely view of the rolling hills.

Nearby, there is Orrest Head – a scenic walking trail featuring panoramic views of the lake and woodlands.

In Windermere town, just a mile away from the gorgeous lake, there is a wonderful variety of eateries and pubs to enjoy.

Moreover, the historical town is near The World of Beatrix Potter, a visitor attraction where the author's enchanted stories are brought to life.
