A hilarious on-screen gaffe unfolded on BBC Breakfast when a reporter lost her notebook amidst broadcasting live.

Fiona Lamdin was delivering a live update from Birmingham, informing the audience about the ongoing tussle between Birmingham City Council and Unite union on Wednesday's programme (16 April).

As Fiona wrapped up her report, BBC Breakfast anchor Jon Kay couldn't resist revealing an amusing incident from Tuesday's show.

"Fiona, thank you very much indeed," he said. "Just before you go Fiona, I heard a rumour that a certain BBC reporter lost her notebook in a pile of rubbish yesterday and had to go rummaging through bins to find it. Is there any truth in this?".

Bursting into laughter, Fiona popped back onto the screen, triumphantly wielding her notebook, reports BirminghamLive.

"I found it!" she proudly announced, showcasing the book to spectators. "My precious notebook."

Back at the desk, Jon and co-presenter Sally Nugent couldn't contain their laughter, with Sally remarking: "It looks OK! Hasn't got any old teabags stuck to it."

As Fiona has been anchoring street-side segments from Birmingham, the region sees continuous strikes by bin workers since the 11 March action against Birmingham City Council, causing refuse and fly-tipped waste to accumulate.

Striking workers rallied on Tuesday (15 April) after Unite union members turned down the latest pay proposal from the council, with further negotiations anticipated soon.

Labour mayor Richard Parker of the West Midlands has been vocal in stating that the strikes are not due to a "localised failure" unique to Birmingham but are symptomatic of the broader decline in local authority funding.

"As bins pile up and pressures mount, the country looks on as if this is the result of some uniquely Brummie dysfunction," Mr Parker expressed in an article for BirminghamLive. "But to treat it as some kind of localised failure - the result of poor choices or civic decline - is to overlook the larger issue.

"We've been caricatured as post-industrial relics, dismissed as too messy, too complex, too far gone. And now we're being painted as forever blighted by the bins."

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One at 6am on weekdays
