Princess Isabella of Denmark marked her 18th birthday with lavish celebrations on Tuesday evening as she attended a theatre performance in Copenhagen with her family. The princess was accompanied by her mother Queen Mary, 53, father, King Frederik, 56, and twin siblings, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, 14 - but two extended members of her family also made a rare appearance.
Count Nikolai, 25, and Count Felix of Monzepat, 22, the sons of Prince Joachim, joined in with the party, wearing velvet suit jackets with smart bow-ties. Tensions had risen between the family in 2023, after Queen Margrethe stripped Prince Joachim's four children - Nikolai, Felix, Henrik and Athena - of their titles, but they still looked pleased to be at the event.
Queen Margrethe believed the move would be "good for them in their future", and allow the children to "shape their own lives without being limited by the special considerations and duties" of working members of the Danish Royal Family.
Prince Joachim, however, publicly spoke out against his mother's decision, claiming that his children had been "harmed" in the process. Nikolai has since launched his own Instagram account to help promote his modelling career and gain fans.
The Princess, who officially turns 18 over Easter on April 21, wore a glittery navy gown and clutch bag, with her hair pulled bac in a bun.
Queen Mary looked equally chic in an off-the-shoulder black and silver ensemble, a shimmering skirt, and loose hair.
The royal household have also recently released new birthday portraits of Princess Isabella to mark her coming of age.
The royal's 18th birthday pictures were taken by photographer Steen Evald in Frederik VIII's Palace at Amalienborg.
On her actual birthday on 21 April, Princess Isabella is expected to enjoy a private birthday celebration with family and loved ones.
From 2025 onwards, Princess Isabella will also have her birthday added into the rotation of annual flag days, which are the official dates when the national flag is traditionally flown.
