Meghan Markle has been known as the Duchess of Sussex since she tied the knot with Prince Harry in May 2018. After deciding to step down as senior working royals in early 2020, both Harry and Meghan were forced to stop using their HRH titles.
Despite this, Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, can still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and frequently use the title. And in the Duchess' Netflix show she claimed her surname is actually Sussex - in a nod to her royal title.
In an exclusive poll conducted by the Express, readers said they don't think Meghan should be allowed to use the Sussex title. The survey, which ran between 5pm on April 14 and 10.20am on April 16, royal fans were asked whether they believed Meghan should be allowed to continue using her Duchess of Sussex title.
Of the 12,507 people who shared their vote, a staggering 97 percent [12,172 people] voted that the mother-of-two should not be allowed to use the Sussex title.
In support of Meghan, just two percent [280 people] voted that she should continue using the title - with an additional one percent [55 people] voting that they were unsure on what Meghan should be allowed to do.
Taking to the comment section, some fans - who voted that she should not be allowed to use the title - also shared at what point Meghan should have had the title removed from her use.
One fan wrote: "Their titles should have been removed the day they left [the] UK."
Another royal fan commented: "Their titles should have been stripped as soon as they left the UK. Something King Charles should do."
Another fan also suggested that their titles could have been removed once they decided they did not want to make a royal return, writing, "Their titles should have been taken after the first year when they knew their trail year was over and [they] weren't coming back."
Another fan simply wrote, "No she shoudn't be able to use the title", with a fifth adding, "Simple answer NO.."
