A man has been left gobsmacked after being hit with an extra charge for complaining about being served the wrong drink in a restaurant.

He explained how he went out to enjoy a pizza and a few drinks - but ended up paying more than he was expecting after being served the wrong beer. He said on Reddit: "I got charged a 'b****ing fee' for informing them I was served the wrong beer."

When reading his receipt, he saw he was charged an extra $5 (£3.77) on top of his bill, putting his overall bill to $24.47 (£18.45).

While some users couldn't help but laugh, others claim it shouldn't be enforceable and they'd be mortified if they saw this one their receipt.

One user said: "There's no way they can make you actually pay that, assuming they didn’t have a sign out somewhere advertising their 'bitching fee' policy." While another user added: "It's interesting that the b****ing fee is taxable in your area. Where I live it's non-taxable."

A third user added: "It looks like they took $2 (£1.50) off of one of the beers because of the mess up and then added the b***ing fee. I wonder if they did it as a joke then didn’t take it off." While someone else said: "That's funny but I'd b**** about a b****ing fee."

It comes after a woman was charged a whopping $25 (£20) after a waitress cut the birthday cake she brought into the restaurant.

TikTok user Gigi, who is known as @vivala_blondiiie online, shared how she was out celebrating a friend's birthday - and made a homemade cake for the special occasion.

She took the cake to the restaurant to surprise her friend - and when asked whether they wanted it cutting and bringing it back out to them, she politely said 'Yes'. However, it wasn't until she reviewed her receipt - which came to a total of $126.98 (£103.33) - when she realised she'd been charged $25 (£20) for the cake to be cut.

She said on TikTok: "When the server asks if we want the cake we brought cut, thinking she's doing something nice for us... but it was $25. I didn't know this was a thing?"

While some users shared their shock over this "outrageous" charge, others claim this is normal for restaurants and reminded her "nothing in life is free".

One user said: "News to me! $25 is way too much and they should have told you first." While someone elseadded: "Many restaurants do this but they definitely should have told you about the fee."

A third user added: "It's obvious. I don't know why people like bringing outside stuff into restaurants." While someone else said: "Some restaurants let you bring in your own bottle of wine but you pay to have it opened. I mean, you're not buying their stuff so?"

Others pointed out how her receipt already includes a $4.52 (£3.68) service charge, suggesting she'd already paid them enough for their service.
