The UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued an alert to anyone who is already in or planning to travel to a popular Spanish destination over the long Easter weekend. Among other duties, the government's foreign affairs department provides regular updates on some 226 nations and territories.

And on Thursday, April 17, the FCDO shared some guidance for travel to a part of Spain. The update on Gov.uk advises people in Tenerife to get in touch with their travel provider.

The alert reads: "Industrial action is planned in the hospitality sector in Tenerife over the Easter bank holiday weekend. If you're due to travel to Tenerife this weekend, check your operator's advice and follow the advice of authorities."

The advice comes as millions of UK families are anticipated to take trips abroad with schools having broken up for the Easter holidays. According to Canarian Weekly, industrial action is set to take place today and tomorrow (April 17 and 18), with some 80,000 hotel industry employees in Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro to strike.

Workers have rejected the latest proposal from the employers' associations, despite mediation efforts from Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo. Proposals included a 6% salary increase, the implementation of adjustable beds, and the establishment of a negotiation table to address further concerns before April 30.

The strike will likely pose significant challenges to the hospitality sector this weekend. Travellers may experience disruptions to hotel services, the publication added.
