Meghan Markle was said to be "thrilled" to see Victoria Beckham in person, according to a former friend. At the time, Meghan was relatively unknown in the UK and had flown over to promote herself and her legal drama. Back then, the future Duchess of Sussex was recognised in the US for her role as Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits, and for her blog, The Tig, which she discontinued after meeting Prince Harry.
She quickly struck up a friendship with WAG Lizzie Cundy, but things soured when Meghan began dating Prince Charles' son and allegedly cut ties with all her UK friends, including Piers Morgan. Talking to the Mirror about their initial encounter, Lizzie revealed: "We can [expect Meghan bloopers] she was 'so excited to be there', she was calling me babe saying she loved London and the red telephone boxes and red buses. She was obsessed with London, you can see it from the interview."
Lizzie Cundy reminisced about the time Meghan Markle was ecstatic to be in the presence of Victoria Beckham, recalling how she had to tell the future Duchess to tone down her excitement. "She was so thrilled to be in the room with Victoria Beckham. This was the night I actually had to tell her to stop squealing when she did see Victoria, it wasn't too cool and she was very overexcited. This was the time before she met her Harry, she was still in Suits, I'd never heard about it. This interview, she asked me to interview her!".
Cundy then detailed how her producer initially dismissed the idea of interviewing Meghan due to the presence of A-listers like Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham, but she insisted: "We've got huge stars, Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham, we haven't got time for this' I said 'No we have to, I promised her.'" Eventually, they recorded the interview, which almost didn't make it to air. Lizzie added, reflecting on the change in circumstances: "Who knew, it's mad, she was very excited, she was very excited to be in the room with Victoria Beckham," and noted, "It's sad that their relationship has soured slightly."
Meghan and Harry's relationship with David and Victoria Beckham is said to have deteriorated after rumours of snubs and an unfriendly phone call, suggesting things have become chilly between them. The Sussexes were reportedly concerned about friends leaking stories, with Meghan particularly suspicious of Victoria, leading to Harry confronting David.
Despite these tensions, a source close to the Beckhams stated: "David and Victoria went to Meghan and Harry's wedding and were very supportive when Meghan arrived in the UK."
