A chef has revealed the popular UK classic dish he will never order in a pub- and the answer may leave you shocked. A chef from Cornwall shared that he will not order fish and chips at a pub as he didn’t observe any consistency in many restaurants.
A quintessential British favourite, fish and chips is loved by many due to its easy availability and delicious taste. However, Isaac Ball, chef at Nancarrow Farm in Cornwall, had a different take on this. He opened up about his dining experience and claimed many pubs "fall flat when it comes to fish and chips". He told Sky News: "I never want to see fish and chips on a menu. I'm not saying I haven't had good plates of it in some pubs - I have.
"But the consistency isn't there, maybe down to it not being their sole focus or the lack of the dedicated equipment.
"Maybe it's missing the experience of the paper or cardboard box from a chippy.”
During the time of the war, Britain's population had to ration most basic foods and goods.
However, fish and chips were not subjected to these restrictions, and so many people, regardless of class, began to love the meal.
The chef also explained that luxury ingredients don't always mean better.
Talking about fillet steak, he said: "More affordable and humble ingredients are often slept on and they can make some amazing dishes if treated correctly.
"Fillet steak, for example, while incredibly good in a beef wellington, can sometimes fall short in comparison to other cuts of steak such as bavette that provide more of an eating experience regarding flavour and texture."
