Katie Price has shared a heartbreaking update about her eldest son, Harvey, 22, after dropping him off at his residential college in Gloucester. The mum-of-five is currently touring the UK, starring in an Easter pantomime production of Pinocchio, and has been giving fans plenty of behind-the-scenes snaps of the show in which she plays a fairy.
Taking to Snapchat, the 46-year-old revealed her disabled son Harvey was with her and had been enjoying a break from the National Star College where he currently lives. The 22-year-old, who lives with a range of complex medical and behavioural conditions, including autism, moved into the £350,000 a year home in 2021. Discussing her decision at the time, Katie said: “It's not because I don't want to see him, but I have to give him a chance to have an independent life and not let him lead me all the time.”
Sharing on social media, Katie revealed that Harvey was very upset about going back to college. Sitting in the car on the journey back, she told the camera: “Now I'm just at Harvey's College, Harvey’s upset, aren't you?” Looking sad in the backseat, Harvey agreed and told his mum he didn’t want to go.
Giving an update on the situation, Katie then explained that she found it very difficult and very upsetting to say goodbye to her firstborn. She added, “I'm surprised I've got a car left. He was literally going to go for the car. It's so sad when your son just doesn't want to go to college and just wants to be with you all the time. I can't wait for him to come home nearer, but the place that we got him is not ready yet, maybe May, so yeah, that's heartbreaking.”
Harvey, whose father is ex-footballer Dwight Yorke, was born with the rare genetic condition, Prader-Willi syndrome, and Katie had hoped the move into a residential care facility would give him more independence. She previously explained that Harvey will live in the facility until he is 25 while studying at college, and believes the transition will help him to make more friends. She said: "So say on weekends, if he's got friends there and they want to go to the cinema, he might want to do that instead of coming to see me - it just gives him that option. He wants me to cuddle him all the time. He's got to learn to do things without me."
Earlier this month Katie was hit with complaints after angering fans with a post suggesting that CBD oil reduced the size of a tumour in a two-year-old girl. The former glamour model claimed CBD oil "shrunk" a little girl’s tumour and went on to promote the product owned by boxer Anthony Fowler as a treatment for "fibromyalgia, arthritis, anxiety/depression any aches/pains or insomnia." Anthony and his wife Serena share a daughter named Roma, who reportedly suffered from the tumour.
