US President Donald Trump has suggested Buckingham Palace is "setting a date for September" for his second state visit to the UK. It comes as the president told reporters in the White House on April 17: "I was invited by the King and the country - great country." Palace sources said an invitation has been issued for the visit, and discussions are continuing to find a suitable date and venue, with nothing finalised yet.
President Trump was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II during his previous three-day state visit in 2019, which took place during his first term in office. Sir Keir Starmer handed Trump an invitation letter from King Charles in February during a meeting at the White House held in front of the media.

Mr Trump said that it was an "honour" to be "a friend" of the King and "the family, William".
The US President said: "I was invited by the King and the great country. They are going to do a second fest - that's what it is. It is beautiful. It is the second time it has happened to one person.
"The reason is we have two separate terms, and it's an honour to be a friend of King Charles and the family, William.
"I think they are setting a date for September. I don't know how it can be bigger than the last one. The last one was incredible but they say the next one will be even more important."
The US President was also full of praise for Prince William after they met last year in Paris for the ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame after the devastating 2019 fire.
