Actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa's final hours have been revealed after their bodies were found on February 26. Betsy, aged 65, succumbed to the rare hantavirus pulmonary syndrome - an illness transmitted by rodents. Gene, aged 95, is believed to have passed away days later due to a combination of severe heart disease and Alzheimer's disease, with pathologists suggesting he might have been unaware of his wife's death in those final moments.
Revelations from new bodycam footage taken inside their home provide a harrowing glimpse into the couple's last hours, especially for Betsy, who was erroneously fighting what she suspected were Covid symptoms. On February 11, Betsy navigated to Amazon to purchase oxygen canisters. It's thought these were bought for "respiratory support", hinting that either she or Gene was facing difficulty in breathing.
Some manufacturers posit that routine use of oxygen canister may aid in lessening fatigue and act as a natural detoxifying agent.
Adding to the heartbreaking scene, police discovered that Betsy had conducted frantic Google searches regarding her health concerns. Her open internet searches for Covid-related symptoms on her laptop, dated February 8 and 12 around the time of her death demonstrated her growing desperation, reports the Mirror.
Notably, the searches confronted two particular symptoms she experienced, now attributed to hantavirus infection searches like "can Covid cause dizziness?" and "Flu and nosebleeds" were found.
Hantavirus often presents with severe headaches, a symptom seen in approximately half of all cases. Less typical are nosebleeds, which compounded Betsy's misdiagnosis fears.
These insights into Betsy's online inquiries unfurl a tragic narrative of her final days, etching a poignant reminder of the couple's plight.
Believing they might be the result of coronavirus, yet having tested negative, she informed her masseuse that Gene had arisen with flu or cold-like symptoms but also tested negative. Opting for caution, she decided to cancel the appointment "out of an abundance of caution".
