A young child has died after drowning in a swimming pool at the Los Lagos de Taurito water park in Mogán, Gran Canaria. The two-year-old girl is believed to have become trapped beneath several inflatable lilos floating in the water, according to authorities.
The tragedy occurred at around 4pm on Holy Saturday (April 19), when emergency services received an alert reporting that a young girl had been pulled from a pool showing signs of drowning. The Canary Islands’ Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) immediately dispatched emergency teams, including paramedics, a medical helicopter, local police, and firefighters, to the scene. Upon arrival, medical personnel found the child in cardiac arrest.
Basic and advanced CPR procedures were performed at the site. However, despite extensive efforts to revive her, the two-year-old was declared dead at the scene.
La Provincia reported that the child was about to turn three and was with her grandmother to enjoy the water park.
Guardia Civil took charge of the investigation and completed an official report.
The news comes barely a week after a three-year-old British toddler died after drowning in a pool at a Greek holiday villa on the island of Zakynthos. The child reportedly entered the pool while other family members, inside the villa at the time, prepared to go out for lunch.
According to Greek state broadcaster, ERT, the toddler was with his mother, two aunts and grandparents, who are UK passport holders.
A spokesperson for the FCDO said they were providing consular support for the family of a British child who died in Greece and that they were in contact with local authorities.
