Margate in Kent has been crowned the most desirable UK seaside town to move to just one year after its beach was named the fourth worst in the UK. The town won due to its favourable housing prices, salaries, climate, connectivity, and amenities available to residents. It previously ranked as the fourth-worst beach resort in the UK by Which? - with a disappointing satisfaction score of just 57% from visitors - has seen its fortunes change dramatically in recent years.
According to new research by My Baggage, the seaside town is now the most desirable place to move to in the UK in 2025 - and is constantly cropping up on lists of the "coolest" seaside towns. Margate came out on top with a relocation score of 98.83, making it the most desirable seaside town in the UK according to the research.
It boasts an inviting sandy beach, traditional fish and chips shops, lively arcade games, and the iconic Dreamland amusement park.
For art enthusiasts, there's the Turner Contemporary gallery showcasing modern art marvels through regularly updated exhibitions.
Another intriguing spot is the Shell Grotto, a mysterious tunnel featuring elaborate shells, the origins and history of which still remain unsolved since its discovery in 1835.
The high street offers an array of shops, inviting pubs for a relaxing pint, and a wide range of restaurants.
Margate also presents itself as an attractively affordable seaside town. To provide a comparison, a typical property in St Ives, Cornwall, costs £504,863, whereas Margate offers an average home price of £333,025.
My Baggage CEO Paul Stewart, who led the research, said: "Margate leads convincingly as the UK's premier coastal relocation destination for 2025.
"Its first-place ranking in our Coastal Relocation Index demonstrates the perfect balance of affordability, quality of life and seaside charm.
"Particularly noteworthy is the strong showing from Kent, with two towns in the top three, suggesting the county's growing reputation as the UK's premier coastal living destination."
