Since quitting royal life in 2020, Prince Harry has experienced some fractured relationships with his royal relatives, most notably his brother Prince William. While Harry, 40, is always believed to have maintained a relationship and contact with his father King Charles, 76, it is now believed the pair’s communication is sparse.

While neither the monarch or his youngest son, who lives in America, have commented on this, royal experts believe there are two reasons why the King is reportedly not picking up the phone when Harry calls. While the monarch no doubt loves his son, it is believed Harry’s court appeal against the Home Office regarding his security in the UK has put Charles in a difficult position, and is one of the reasons he is reportedly not answering Harry’s calls.

This is because the King does not want to get involved in any court matters, which could happen if he spoke to his youngest son.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, royal correspondent Sarah Hewson said: “There is absolutely no way that the King could be seen to be intervening in this at all.

“Even any innocuous comment that could have been interpreted in a way and find its way into evidence in the court by Prince Harry's barrister. The King can't have conversations with him. And we're learning that the distance between them is perhaps greater than ever.”

This same view was echoed by GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker, who said: “The King sees it really as his duty as head of state that he should not get involved with the judicial system.

“And I think he may well have been advised that he probably shouldn't take his son's calls in case this court case is brought up, in case he's forced to say something to Prince Harry.”

It is believed the King may also be missing Harry’s calls as he may be worried that private conversations could end up in a book. This comes after Harry published his memoir Spare in 2023, which included private family moments that the royals would have preferred were not made public.

Mr Walker said on The Sun’s show: “I think that is what's making the royal family and those close to them paranoid about talking to Prince Harry, particularly on [what] could be a fundamental constitutional issue such as this.”

Prince Harry’s calls and letters to his father King Charles are reportedly being left “unanswered” recently according to a palace source.

It is believed the father and son have not seen each other in person since February 2024 when Harry flew from his home in Montecito to London to see the King after his cancer diagnosis was made public.
