Gordon Ramsay’s quintessentially British breakfast has been brutally labelled “half English” after diners were left unimpressed by the classic meal. Guests at The Savoy who attended The River Restaurant spoke out about their disappointment after ordering the £24 dish. The meal consisted of some of the nation's favourite items: sausage, streaky bacon, tomato, mushroom, black pudding and eggs.

However, those who expected a hearty take on the breakfast staple fumed that the portion size didn’t match its cost, with some diners also suggesting that the dish was missing staples from a traditional breakfast, such as hash browns, baked beans, fried bread, or toast. Additionally, others frowned upon Gordon’s decision to use American-style streaky bacon instead of back bacon, which is typically used in the UK. Diners do have the option of adding extra sides to their meal, including a portion of baked beans, hash browns for £4 and eggs of any style for an additional £6.

In addition to the expensive meal, if you want to wash down the breakfast, diners will also need to fork out an additional £6.50 for tea or coffee, while a fresh glass of orange, apple or grapefruit juice is an extra £5.50. Although The River Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay is located at the five-star Savoy Hotel in central London, people couldn’t look past the dish’s portion sizes. A video of the plate was shared on Instagram, where users rushed to share their thoughts. One person remarked that the meal was “half English at best,” while someone else stated: “Needs at least three sausages, one is ridiculous.”

A third user slammed: “That’s not a full English, you should know better.” And a fourth unimpressed fan stated: “Bacon looks awful. I would still be hungry after that poor excuse for a breakfast.” Despite the criticism, one said it was “plated beautifully,” and another added: “That bacon looks amazing, I would love Gordon Ramsay to cook for me anytime.”

It's not the first time a celebrity chef's food has left diners fuming over the price and its details. Food critic Ed Chapman said he was "almost speechless" at how bad his meal was at Tom Kerridge's fish and chips in Harrods - even setting aside the sky-high price. YouTube star Ed Chapman sampled the fare at Kerridge's Fish and Chips located in the opulent Harrods as part of his quest to review Britain's priciest meals.

Upon completing his dining experience, he expressed his severe disappointment, saying: "That was quite possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever had. I'm almost speechless at how bad that was. I anticipated it to be poor value for money... I didn't quite expect it to be that dreadful though. Not only was it poor value for money, but the food was simply terrible."
