Locals have shared what to do when you visit Benidorm - and things that tourists do that often annoy them.
The Spanishdestination has been one of the most popular places for Brits to visit due to its budget-friendly accommodation, affordable food and drink, plenty of free activities and wild night life.
It is known for its 'Brits Abroad' reputation plus plenty of expats live there – so you are bound to be surrounded by English speakers.
Because of its party reputation, there are plenty of things that tourists do that annoy people who live there. A local shared nine things not to do while visiting Benidorm, following a discussion on Reddit.
It comes after one holiday goer, who is visiting Benidorm in September, said: "What should I keep in mind to avoid annoying locals?"
They added: "I just want to be a good guest. I don't drink much, and I'm not that social: I'm mostly going to hang out on a warm beach, take walks, and see new sights. I was just wondering if there is something not alcohol-related I should keep in mind, that tends to annoy the locals about tourists."
Thankfully, one resident was on hand to offer their top nine pieces of advice. Here's what they had to say.
The local said: "Don't get drunk during the day, especially in family-friendly public areas. I lived in the UK for almost a decade and it was normal to see the grownups getting shit faced at lunch with their kids roaming around. That's not a thing in Spain."
The Spaniard added: "Always wear a T-shirt when entering any shop and to sit down for lunch. You will see lots of signs about this in the most touristic places. Lots of places will straight out refuse you entry if your torso is exposed."
This includes wearing shoes outside. The Redditor explained: "It's not only safer for your feet, but nobody wants to see your black dirty feet when you sit next to them on the bus."
The local encourages holidaymakers to embrace the fact they are in Spain. They should enjoy the sunshine and not moan about not having all their home comforts.
They wrote: "You may not find Marmite in the supermarket. You may struggle to have dinner at 5pm. You may not find a bar to watch the latest rugby match. The cashier may only speak Spanish. Anybody who is not a moron will expect this. So, don't be a moron and complain about it."
The Spaniard warned: "Don't move anybody's things on the beach. It doesn't matter if you haven't seen anybody using that towel in the last three hours. Some people leave their things there for ages and it is expected they won't be touched."
While you may see some people sunbathing topless, this doesn't mean you can go fully starkers. The local added the exception is "going to a nudist beach", where ditching clothes is the norm.
We all know not to do this here in the UK, but some assume you're allowed to light up when on holiday.
The Benidorm expert advised: "If you want to smoke somewhere, ask the staff and they may be able to point you the nearest possible spot."
Treat the holiday hotspot like you would with your own space. It's a beautiful place – so be sure not to leave any rubbish lying around.
No one wants to hear obnoxious holidaymakers at all hours of the day. The Redditor wrote: "Don't make noise between 00:00 and 09:00".
While this may seem like a long list of rules, the Spaniard is purely asking locals to be respectful. They also told the tourist they had nothing to worry about.
The commenter concluded: "Considering you are asking how to be mindful and considerate, I'm sure you'll be ok. Have fun!"
And another agreed: "Definitely true. That said, a glass of wine with lunch is absolutely fine even in family friendly places, it's overdoing it that's the problem!"
