The latest episode of The Handmaid's Tale, aptly named Janine, saw June Osborne (portrayed by Elisabeth Moss) and Moira Strand (played by Samira Wiley) in a perilous situation as they infiltrated Jezebel's disguised as marthas, only to be attacked.

Prior to their unforeseen assault, the duo rendezvoused with Janine Lindo (Madeline Brewer), unveiling Mayday's scheme to rescue the women. June and Moira pledged to return within a week.

Janine appeared hopeful, even content, as she resumed her duties at the brothel, which included entertaining the repugnant Commander Bell (Timothy Simons), who harboured an obsession for her.

In a further twist, it was revealed that the Commanders had no plans to modernise, with the tentatively emerging district of New Bethlehem merely a facade, reports the Mirror US.

Their strategy was to repatriate all the refugees and reincorporate New Bethlehem into Gilead within a three-year timeframe.

Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) was marked for execution, much to the delight of Commander Bell.

During the scene at Jezebel's, Janine and Commander Lawrence slipped away to another room under the guise of sleeping together, but instead engaged in conversation while Commander Bell simmered with envy.

Many viewers are now concerned about Janine's future, predicting a bleak outcome for her character, despite Mayday's intentions to save the women.

One viewer took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their concern, writing: "Genuinely scared for this plan bc everything involving Janine ends up blowing up on their face and her always left behind #TheHandmaidsTale [sic]."

Another fan echoed these sentiments, stating: "Now I'm worried about Janine. #TheHandmaidsTale."

A third chimed in with: "Janine's "It's just a week" line gave me bad "Janine's not going to make it" vibes. I'm going to be so upset because she's been thru the most and deserves to be free.

"But I can see her death pushing Aunt Lydia over the edge and being the catalyst to The Testaments! #TheHandmaidsTale [sic]."

Yet another person posted: "I need them to get Janine out of Jezebels already...Commander Bell is dangerous and my girl needs to be free! #TheHandmaid."

While a fifth viewer declared: "Janine better make it out of this season I swear to god #TheHandmaidsTale [sic]."

Is Janine in The Testaments?

Unfortunately, Janine's fate remains uncertain both in The Handmaid's Tale and The Testaments, which serves as a sequel to Margaret Atwood's original novel.

Furthermore, actress Brewer has confirmed that she will not be appearing in the upcoming adaptation of The Testaments, which depicts the downfall of Gilead.

She recently shared with Elle: "I'm just so happy that Anne [Dowd, who stars as Aunt Lydia] gets to continue making some magic with this character."

The star expressed her enthusiasm for the fresh faces on set, stating: "I'm thrilled for the new cast members. For some of them, it's the start of their careers, and I'm so happy for them that they get to work with such an incredible crew and with Anne, who is a master class in what it means to be a person-empathetic, compassionate, generous."

The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 will be coming to Prime Video and Channel 4 on May 3 in the UK
