Sainsbury’s is giving customers up to 8,000 bonus Nectar points for switching to one of its fixed energy tariffs. The supermarket chain says customers who change their energy supply to Sainsbury’s Energy will not only get access to “affordable energy rates”, but will also benefit from added rewards on their grocery shopping simply by linking up their Nectar account.

All Sainsbury’s Energy customers can get bonus Nectar points - up to 8,000 - when they sign up to an eligible tariff and you’ll also earn up to triple Nectar points on your grocery shopping for the life of your tariff. Both new and existing Sainsbury’s Energy customers who switch to a 12, 14 or 16 month fixed tariff can earn 2,000 Nectar points per fuel - so up to 4,000 points in total, which is worth £20 at Sainsbury’s or Argos.

Those who switch to a 24 month contract can earn 4,000 Nectar points per fuel, so up to 8,000 in total, which is worth £40 at Sainsbury’s or Argos.

Sainsbury's said: "The following applies to all new and existing Sainsbury’s Energy customers who switch to a fixed tariff. 2,000 Nectar points per fuel (up to 4,000 points) when you switch to a 12 month, 14 month or 16 month tariff. 4,000 points per fuel (up to 8,000 points) when you switch to a 24 month fixed tariff.

"Offer available to new residential gas and electricity customers (dual fuel customers) or electricity only customers switching to Sainsbury’s Energy, as well as existing Sainsbury’s Energy customers."

Each Nectar point is worth half a penny, so 500 points will get you £2.50 off your shopping. But the value of the Nectar points can vary depending on where you choose to spend them and if you take advantage of any partner or special offers, which can sometimes boost the amount points are worth.

In addition, new and existing dual fuel customers on any Sainsbury’s Energy tariff get two extra Nectar points for each £1 spent in Sainsbury’s stores (triple points), while single fuel customers get one additional Nectar point per £1 spent (double points), up to a maximum of 3,500 points per fuel for each year of their tariff.
