Donald Trump does not want to fight with the Royal Family after concerns were raised over Prince Harry’s US visa records, a royal commentator has claimed. The US President has vowed to "leave him alone" following the Duke of Sussex’s visa status coming under scrutiny.

Admissions of past drug use in his memoir ‘Spare’ led to legal action from conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation against the Department of Homeland Security in Washington DCas part of attmepts to have the royal's US visa records publicly released. However, Mr Trump promised he would not oust him from the US, regardless of what the visa documents revealed. He said: "I don't want to do that, I'll leave him alone." Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has now nodded towards the president’s love for the monarchy as a reason for dropping the visa battle.

He told GB News: "Donald Trump does not want a battle with a member of the Royal Family. It would be appealed through the courts and it would have a huge amount of publicity.

"He values his trips in 2018 and 2019. He values his links with the Royal Family."

Mr Trump has previously taken swipes at Meghan Markle, stating that Harry has "got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible".

"Harry is still fifth in line to the throne and is still a member of the Royal Family, that is why Trump does not want that [fight]," Mr Fitzwilliams added.

The US President is set to undertake a second State Visit to the UK following an invitation from King Charles last month. This will mark the first elected political leader to be hosted for two State Visits by a British monarch.

The invitation was delivered by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer during a White House press conference, offering a meeting at either Dumfries House or Balmoral Castle.

The president accepted the invite, saying it would be an "honour" to visit the "fantastic" country.

During his first presidential term in 2019, Mr Trump was hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth for a three-day state visit.
