Rod Stewart has been dealt a devastating blow as his family laid to rest Christina Nicole Artukovich. The big sister of Rod's son Liam's wife Nicole Stewart "gained her angel wings" on April 2 at the age of 38. The circumstances behind her death have been unreported, but the entire Stewart family has been left "heartbroken" as they shared numerous tributes on social media.
On Tuesday, Nicole attended her funeral and shared a photo of Christina on a programme that was given out during the service. The pair were extremely close, with Nicole calling Christina "the glue that held us together". At the time of her death, Nicole, who is married to Rod's son Liam Stewart, shared: "My big sister gained her angel wings and I'm not sure how I'm meant to do life without her.
"My protective big sis who always had my back. She made everyone feel seen, loved, and safe. She was the glue that held us and so many together."
Nicole described how Christina's family was "absolutely everything to her" and recalled their daily communication.
"There wasn't a day she didn't check in with every one of us. Her daily FaceTime calls, 30 texts at once... I now can't imagine life without them."
The Stewart family has come together with a show of support for Nicole during these challenging times, as many celebrated Christina's life and the impact she made on everyone around her.
Penny lovingly typed: "So heartbreaking. Sending all deepest condolences."
Rachel Hunter, Liam's mother and Rod's second wife, commented: "My heart is with you and your family. Such a shock. She had such incredible energy, which she always brought into a space, and she had a huge heart."
Rod's first wife, Alana Stewart, added: "I'm so very sorry. God bless you and your family. Sending you love and prayers."
Liam himself posted a moving tribute, as he typed: "Beans... my sister-in-law... You were one of my best friends besides my wife, if not my best friend. I love you, and I miss you being around a hell of a lot already."
In her tribute, Nicole made a heartfelt reference to Christina's son, writing: "I'm so proud of the mother you were and the boy you raised. We have Roko now, thank you for giving us him. He shines your love." (sic)
