Home to stunning waterfalls, the village of Keld is consistently listed among the prettiest in Britain. Nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Keld is a gorgeous village known for its picturesque setting and rolling hills.

The village’s natural beauty is its highlight, which sets it apart from the other villages in the UK. Surrounded by rugged mountains and valleys, Keld is a paradise for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. East Gill Force is an amazing little gem of two waterfalls in the hamlet of Keld, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which has been previously named as the "best" in Europe in the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards. 

One of the users on the TripAdvisor forum said of the stunning waterfalls: “Little diamond of a place. Park on the side of the road right next to it. It’s only small compared to some but very dramatic and inspiring.

"There is a safe place for children and a pool for swimming in if that’s your thing. I spent an hour in the waterfall, and it’s not cold, really. It’s certainly worth the ride out. I would recommend to anyone.”

Another one wrote: “Stayed in Keld for the February half term. Followed the waterfall trail (leaflets around the village and the area).

“Three teenagers loved it climbed up the rocks, sliding on the slimy uncovered areas, exploring the entrance to caves, skimming stones - all a short walk from the village.

“Obviously, for those without teenagers, a lovely collection of waterfalls close to the village of Keld, which has a car park and a pay-for-use tea shop.”

East Gill Force has been described as "hidden" by the UK Hidden Gems Instagram account, due to its tucked away location and peaceful nature.

The name "Keld" derives from the Viking word "Kelda," meaning spring, and the village was once called Appletre Kelde, referencing a spring near apple trees.

At its peak during the lead mining boom of the late 19th century, Keld's population reached around 6,000.

There are a large number of cafes and restaurants around the village where tourists can have a nice meal while enjoying the gorgeous views.

Keld is also home to a B&B, making it a perfect stopping point for those attempting the 267-mile hike. The Punch Bowl Inn also serves up home-cooked food and drinks seven days a week.
