Freddie Flintoff's harrowing Top Gear accident has been laid bare for all to see in his latest Disney+ documentary, with gruesome photos now revealing the aftermath of the December 2022 crash. The former England cricketer can be seen looking battered, bloody and bruised following the life-changing accident.

The Disney+ documentary 'Flintoff' offers viewers a grisly close-up of the three-wheeled car he was piloting for the first time, alongside insights from Surgeon Jahrad Haq who treated Freddie's "very complex" injuries. The wounds were a brutal mix of hard and soft tissue damage, including broken and missing teeth as well as portions of fractured and displaced jaw bone. Mr Haq explained: "He lost a really significant portion of his upper lip - the skin and some of the underlying muscle - and also his lower lip."

According to the reconstructive surgeon, these injuries ranked amongst the "top five" for severity he'd encountered in his entire career in the medical field, reports the Mirror.

Freddie's injuries were so alarming that his wife, who bravely held back her tears, had to prepare their four children prior to their seeing him.

She shared her heart-wrenching first glimpse of him in the documentary, admitting: "When I did see him, I walked in the room, and he was just in the bed, and he was bandaged up.

"Like his eyes, I've never seen someone so scared in their eyes. And he just stared at me, and I just think he was looking at me to know how bad he was.

"So to be fair, I totally pulled myself together, and I just didn't cry. I didn't, I just said, 'It's fine. You're gonna be okay. I can't believe how amazing you look'."

Before returning home after the accident, the concerned parent made a heartfelt call to their children, saying: "Before we got home, I did, I did call the kids, and I did say to them, 'You've just got to be as strong as you've ever been.

"'Your dad does look different at the moment. It's gonna get better, but I don't want you to look shocked and horrified, because that's gonna knock him'."

"And that was hard, but Andy doesn't know I've ever done that. I was so grateful to all those people, I still had a husband, the kids still had their dad."

Freddie himself was terrified in the aftermath of the crash, fearing the worst about his appearance. He recounted: "I looked down and blood was coming down. And my biggest fear was I didn't think I had a face. I thought my face had come off. I was frightened to death."

The harrowing incident took place at Dunsfold Park in Surrey in which the sportsman stepped behind the wheel of a Morgan Super 3 car without a roof that ended up flipping over.

The Disney+ documentary captures the vehicle post-accident, with Freddie remembering: "It were a three wheeler, a reinforcement windscreen and a bar covering half me back. So I'm exposed."

He described the surreal experience of the car rolling, noting: "We're probably doing about 40 or 45, they were showing me how to get the car going sideways, and the wheel came up at the front.

"It's a funny thing rolling a car because there's a point of no return, and everything slows down. It's so weird." In a concerning revelation, Flintoff's co-host Chris Harris disclosed in September 2024 that he had raised safety concerns with Top Gear executives prior to Freddie's accident.

BBC Studios, the production company behind Top Gear, pointed to an independent probe carried out in 2023 which concluded that the show adhered to industry best practice. However, it acknowledged that there were "learnings which would need to be rigorously applied" should Top Gear make a comeback.

Presently, the show is on a hiatus following Freddie Flintoff's accident, and it has been reported that executives have settled with him for a multimillion-pound sum.
