A bizarre moment between Donald Trump, Melania Trump and the Macrons at Pope Francis's funeral has been caught on camera. French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron joined world leaders at the solemn ceremony in St Peter's Square on Saturday (April 26). A video shows the Trumps chatting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb as they appear among the mourners. Melania then can be seen seemingly turning her back as the Macrons approach. Once the leader of France and his spouse pass in front of the US President and First Lady, Melania then turns back round to face her husband.

Analysis by Nicola Hickling of Lip Reader Limited carried out for the Express suggests that before the Macrons arrive, Melania is talking about her 55th birthday, which falls on the same day as Pope Francis's funeral. Ms Hickling, speaking on behalf of Oddspedia, said: "It’s Melania’s birthday. Donald and Melania are discussing this with (Stubb). Melania notices them (the Macrons) approaching and turns her back to them. When the Macrons walk past them and completely ignore them, Donald looks shocked and moves his hand as if to say something he is thinking. Melania then looks at Donald exasperated and says 'Did you see that?'."

The clip might suggest to some that the Macrons and Melania were snubbing one another. Mr Trump, Mr Macron, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, were photographed speaking to each other during a brief meeting held at St Peter's Basilica before the service began.

Leaders joined royals and other dignitaries for Francis's final farewell, with crowds filling St Peter's Square to see his coffin and pay their last respects. The Vatican said 200,000 people attended the funeral.

The seating plan was based on a complex order of precedence, with Argentina - the country of the Pope's birth - and Italy, due to his status as bishop of Rome, at the front.

Other sovereigns, heads of state, and heads of government were then seated in alphabetical order of their countries' names in the French language - used because French is considered the language of diplomacy.

Addressing those gathered in the square in front of the basilica, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re repeated Francis's mantra to "build bridges, not walls".

The cardinal told the congregation: "Pope Francis incessantly raised his voice imploring peace and calling for reason and honest negotiation to find possible solutions.

"War, he said, results in the death of people and the destruction of homes, hospitals and schools. War always leaves the world worse than it was before: it is always a painful and tragic defeat for everyone. 'Build bridges, not walls' was an exhortation he repeated many times."

Francis died on Easter Monday aged 88. He has been hailed for his leadership of the Church and proved particularly popular with young people. He was known for his celebrated for his care towards those most in need in society.

While Saturday is the first of nine official days of mourning, speculation over who will be the next pope is likely to begin soon after the funeral.

A secret meeting of cardinals to elect Francis's successor, known as conclave, is thought likely to begin on May 5.

Bookmakers have identified Cardinal Pietro Parolin as the favourite, with odds of 2/1, according to Oddspedia.

It also shows Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle is at 3/1, Cardinal Peter Turkson is at 6/1 and Cardinal Matteo Zuppi is 8/1.
