Majorca is a favourite of British travellers, featuring long sandy beaches, a warm climate and a vast array of hotels and holiday rentals. More than 2.3 million Brits visit Majorca each year, with 70% of the island’s visitors made up of German and British tourists.
In comparison, the population of the largest island in the Balearics is a mere 900,000, though the Palma de Majorca airport processes around 30 million passengers annually. One beach, though, is particularly population with German sunseekers and may be a hidden gem for Brits.
Fırat Güney Köseoğlu, a representative at Spain Homes, writes S’Arenal is “one of the most popular destinations for German citizens”.
He added: “It is so popular that most think it is one of the best areas to stay in Majorca. S’Arenal is considered one of the best places not only for Germans in Majorca but also for tourists from everywhere.
This beach offers “large holiday parties” every year and seems to be a fantastic spot.
Described by abcMajorca as a “high-octane village”, S’Arenal lies on Majorca’s south coast at the eastern end of the “Playa de Palma”.
The village was first populated at the end of the 1800s and featured a small fishing dock, while it has grown since the 1950s into a hotspot for partying and big nights out.
abcMajorca advises: “Although not as notorious as Magaluf, S’Arenal can be noisy and rowdy. This makes it an ideal location if you want buzz and lots of things to do all day and night, but not the best choice if you are in search of peace and quiet.”
The area features a large beach front popular with dog walkers, bikers and skateboarders attracted by its white sand and scattering of palm trees.
It also has shallow water which is safe to swim in, but does become crowded at peak season, while its promenade offers a huge range of rides and sports.
Other attractions in S’Arenal include the 15 open-air huts which serve drinks and snacks, as well as the water park Aqualand and the famous Palma aquarium.
The village also celebrates the San Bartomeu festival each August with events and attractions including the reenactment of an ancient battle between the Romans and Carthaginians.
