England is set to sizzle later this week as new weather maps show temperatures climbing to a scorching 25C. According to charts provided by Netweather.tv, the heat will peak on Thursday, May 1, with parts of the country potentially enjoying the warmest weather so far this year.
The forecast map shows large areas of southern and eastern England turning bright red as the mercury rises into the mid-20s. The hottest spots are expected to reach 24C or 25C, with many areas sitting comfortably in the low 20s. Netweather.tv predicts that the heat will be focused in the southeast and East Anglia, with nine counties in particular set to see the highest temperatures.
Most other parts of England, Wales, and southern Ireland are expected to see temperatures between 17C and 23C.
Meanwhile, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be cooler, with highs of around 10C to 15C.
The maps are valid for Thursday, May 1, and the warm spell will come after several days of dry, sunny weather across much of the UK.
However, the Met Office has warned that the hot weather might not last long.
In its long-range forecast for Thursday, May 1 to Saturday, May 10, the Met Office said: "Following a widely fine and very warm spell through the week, temperatures are most likely to return back closer to average from the north during Thursday and Friday.
“Whilst a little rain is possible during this transition, most areas remaining largely dry. Largely fine but cooler conditions are then most likely over the weekend."
