A flight was forced to divert midway through its journey after passengers onboard became disruptive. The Jet2 plane was flying from Alicante to Manchester, yet made the decision to land in Barcelona, sparking a three-hour delay for travellers. The incident took place on Friday night when the troublesome passengers on the aircraft were kicked off the plane during the stop.
The Jet2 flight eventually continued its journey to Manchester Airport, after it offloaded the disruptive travellers. However, it landed three hours behind schedule. A spokesperson for the airline said: "Flight LS881 diverted to Barcelona so that police could offload some disruptive passengers. As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour."
The delay follows a separate incident which saw a Jet2 flight land earlier than it had planned to. Another aircraft was forced to make an emergency stop after a passenger had tragically died on the plane.
The aircraft was flying from the British holiday hotspot, Tenerife, to the UK on Friday evening. Cabin crew swiftly alerted air traffic control that a male passenger onboard was suffering from a severe medical emergency which required urgent professional attention.
The plane then diverted to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport, located in mainland Spain, where emergency services were waiting on the tarmac.
However, despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead on the runway. Jet2 has not released any further details about the deceased passenger.
The airline has also not shared any further intel about the disruption of the Alicante flight which was diverted to Barcelona.
Earlier this year, an EasyJet flight, also on its way to Manchester Airport, was forced to make an emergency landing in Greece after the pilot worryingly collapsed at the controls last week.
Cabin crew reportedly abandoned their duties and rushed to the front of the aircraft while calling for medical assistance.
