Forget the famous Café del Mar on Ibiza, it's going to more like Café del Margate this week as scorching temperatures make the UK hotter than the Spanish party island loved by Brits. On Thursday, May 1 much of England will be basking in temperatures usually more common in the Mediterranean.

In fact new maps have revealed by 3pm on May 1, cities like London, Leeds and Sheffield will be hotter than Ibiza with temperatures forecast to hit 25C in the capital and 23C in Yorkshire. Counties like Kent and Surrey will also see 23C, as well as Buckinghamshire, with majority of the rest of England seeing at least 20C.

But 870 miles south on the same day, the usually sun-kissed Balearic island will only experience the mercury reaching a disappointing 22C. Cafe del Mar is one of the most famous venues on Ibiza, having become famous during the 1980s and 90s for its chillout music and talented DJs. Weary clubbers looking for rest and relaxation would flock to the site to watch the sunset from the café's beachfront terrace and lose themselves in the chilled vibes.

A wider map of Europe also shows the UK will be warmer than large parts of Turkey and Greece, as well as Poland and the Nordic countries.

Looking ahead from May 1, a statement from the Met Office said: "Following a widely fine and very warm spell through the week, temperatures are most likely to return back closer to average from the north during Friday.

"Whilst a little rain is possible during this transition, most areas remaining largely dry. Largely fine but cooler conditions are then most likely over the weekend.

However, likely cloudier and breezier at times across some northern areas with a chance of rain.

The report said: "Into the following week, conditions will probably turn more changeable overall, with dry, settled periods interspersed with some spells of wetter weather.

"This will bring some showers or longer spells of rain at times, which could be heavy and thundery in places. Temperatures will likely be around average."

This Evening and Tonight:

Mostly clear skies overnight, with a few mist and fog patches perhaps developing in places as winds fall light, though they are not expected to be as widespread as previous nights. A local rural grass frost is also possible. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Monday:

Any early mist and fog patches clearing quickly to give a warm and sunny day. Feeling very warm at times in the sunshine with light winds. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Dry with plenty of sunshine each day, temperatures increasing to become very warm. Generally light winds, although easterly breezes from midweek bringing some slightly cooler temperatures to eastern coasts.
