Egypt has announced it will be giving one of its most iconic attractions a £38 million revamp. The 4,500-year-old Pyramids of Giza have been slammed for many years by tourists left disappointed by the state of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Issues and allegations have included animal mistreatment, unchecked and pushy vendors, general mismanagement, and overcrowding. But all of this could change with a new initiative from Orascom Pyramids Entertainment Services Company. Officials have indicated that their renovation will include the restoration of several tombs, as well as the introduction of an online ticketing system, and an upgraded visitor centre.
