Roshane McClymont, 29, was enjoying a £5.99 breakfast wrap meal from the popular fast food chain when he suddenly experienced "several sharp scratches" in his throat, realising he had eaten an eggshell.
After contacting 111, he was advised to seek medical attention at Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk, where doctors confirmed that the eggshells had indeed scratched his throat. Roshane now fears the incident has caused significant damage to his throat and expresses concern over allowing his seven year old son to eat at McDonald's in the future.
The single father stated: "I have got a lot of scratches in my throat section because of this whole incident, and it has caused a lot of damage."
He added: "The fact that I have got a little seven-year-old son is actually scary to think about. It could have easily been him, and I could have taken him to the McDonald's that day."
He questioned: "Who knows what would have happened if he had swallowed it accidentally?" Roshane, from Debenham, Suffolk, recalled eating his breakfast at the McDonald's in Ipswich on April 13 when he felt the eggshells in his mouth. Initially, he thought it was a bone from a sausage patty.
After swallowing the eggshells, he began choking and managed to cough up the eggshells.
Delivery driver Roshane recounted his harrowing experience: "I had about five bites and then I had a bite and it was a crunching sensation - but I didn't realise until I swallowed it."
He continued, sharing the moment he felt something wrong, "The eggshells must have been wrapped in the egg or the patty, so I thought it could have been a bone."
The situation quickly worsened as he said, "I swallowed it and felt several sharp scratches on my throat - so my partner had to pat me on the back because I started choking."
Upon further inspection, Roshane discovered, "I picked apart the breakfast wrap and saw that there was more eggshells in there."
Traumatised by the event, Roshane expressed his uncertainty about returning to McDonald's: "I am put off but at the same time I do like McDonalds."
He added, "This could be a one off - this is the first time it's happened to me. But right now, I am put off on going back."
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, a McDonald's spokesperson reached out with an apology, stating: "We are sorry to hear about this customer's experience."
Explaining the mishap, they said, "We use freshly cracked eggs throughout our breakfast menu and on this occasion a piece of eggshell appears to have found its way into the Breakfast Wrap.
"As soon as the customer brought this to our attention, they were apologised to and offered a full refund which was declined.
"We understand our customer services team is picking up with the customer to help find a resolution."
