GB News Breakfast presenter Ellie Costello has admitted her "eyes are streaming" as she opened up on the effects of hay fever. The 32-year-old took to her Instagram stories revealing she is already afflicted by the condition despite the fact that it traditionally doesn't hit sufferers until later in the year. Posting a picture of her allergy relief medication she captioned it: "Anyone else suffering with hay fever yet? Feels too early but my eyes are streaming!" She added a poll to the story to see if others were also similarly afflicted.

Ellie is not alone as 13 to 16 million people in the UK, or roughly one in four, suffer from the condition, which is a pollen allergy. According to the NHS hay fever is a common allergy that causes sneezing, coughing and itchy eyes. Although you cannot cure it, but there are things you can do to help your symptoms or medicines you can take to help.

Symptoms are at their worst when it's warm, humid and windy as this is when the pollen count is at its highest. The condition can last for weeks or months, unlike a cold, which usually clears up after one to two weeks. The NHS suggest a variety of ways to treat symptoms, including putting petroleum jelly around your nostrils to trap pollen that is in the air. They also recommend wearing wraparound sunglasses, a mask or a wide-brimmed hat to stop pollen getting into your nose and eyes.

Experts also suggest sufferers should shower and change clothing after they have been outside to wash any pollen residue off them. It is also recommended that anyone suffering should keep windows and doors shut as much as possible. Other practical ways to help symptoms include keeping your house in order with regualr vacuumming and dusting with a damp cloth. You can also add a pollen filter in the air vents of your car, if you have one, and a HEPA filter in your vacuum cleaner can also help relieve symptoms.
