A six year old girl has tragically lost her life after being struck by a Range Rover in a devastating incident in Rochdale. The emergency services rushed to the scene on Ashfield Road around 5.35pm on Monday (April 28), following distressing reports of an accident.

According to Greater Manchester Police, the vehicle was heading westbound when it horrifically hit the young girl as she stepped onto the road. Despite the immediate and desperate efforts of the emergency responders, the child succumbed to her severe injuries shortly after the collision.

GMP has confirmed that specialist officers are providing support to the bereaved family during this unimaginably difficult time. The driver involved in the incident stayed at the scene, and as of now, no arrests have been made, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the tragic event and is actively continuing their enquiries. They are urgently calling for witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to come forward without delay.

Detective Constable Thomas Johnson of the SCIU expressed his deepest sympathies, stating: "I firstly want to pass my condolences onto the family of the girl who tragically died following last night's collision."

He added, "The thoughts of everyone from our investigating team are with them and we are continuing to support them where we can. As our work progresses, we are asking for anyone with any information to please come forward."

Detectives investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses and urging anyone with footage to come forward. They said: "You may have witnessed last night's incident, or have relevant CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage. If you can send this to our officers, this would be greatly appreciated as we put together a complete picture of last night's incident."

A large section of the road was sealed off for several hours on Monday evening as forensic experts began their investigation. The air ambulance service also attended the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101 or via their website, quoting the reference number 2683 of April 28, 2025.
