In a startling incident captured on video, a trip by holidaymakers aboard a Carnival Cruise ship descended into chaos, resulting in a violent brawl involving dozens. The tumultous incident led to the disciplining of more than 20 individuals, who were subsequently added to the "Do Not Sail" list after the disconcerting altercation.
The dramatic footage unveiled horrifying scenes as passengers engaged in fisticuffs, hurling punches and objects during the soon-to-be-concluded week-long voyage in the Western Caribbean. The brawl broke out as holiday-goers disembarked from the Carnival Jubilee cruise.
Initially, the video—recorded and disseminated by an onlooker—showed several individuals swinging at a traveller who fell to the ground.
Pandemonium ensued as revelers overran a barrier and pursued another passenger, seemingly dragging the person down. Despite security personnel's efforts to defuse the situation, the full-on brawl continued unchecked with multiple guests engaged in violent exchanges, focussing their aggression on one particular man.
The horrific confrontation unfolded as the ship wrapped up its weekly trip at a terminal in Galveston, Texas, on Saturday April 26, taking place amidst the baggage claim area, with luggage piled nearby where the combat ensued, reports the Mirror.
A representative for Carnival Cruise confirmed the subsequent barring of 24 patrons from future voyages following the alarming melee.
In an official comment to USA Today, the firm disclosed: "The incident occurred in the debarkation area under the authority of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. The matter was turned over to law enforcement. We will not tolerate such behavior, and 24 people have been placed on our Do Not Sail list."
Reacting to a fracas at Cruise Terminal 25, the Port of Galveston Police Department issued a statement. According to reports, CBP "detained several individuals" and one person was charged by police at the port; however, the exact nature of the charge remains undisclosed.
Facebook user Trelle Ray uploaded the footage, which quickly went viral with over a million views, captioned: "It went down this morning."
Setting sail from Galveston last Saturday, April 19, the cruise lasted for a week and included stops in Caribbean destinations like Costa Maya in Mexico and Roatan Island in Honduras, as listed by CruiseMapper.
Past incidents reveal this is not a singular event at sea; there was a tumultuous fight involving about 60 revelers off the coast of New York City in 2022. During the chaos on the Carnival Magic ship, which played out in a nightclub, glasses and bottles were reportedly used to assault others.
Footage from aboard the vessel suggested that what began as an argument between two passengers quickly exploded into a melee, drawing in dozens more. The Coast Guard intervened in the disturbance and followed the boat back to where NYPD officers awaited at the dock.
