A woman has claimed she was "yelled at" on a train for refusing to move her bag.
Travelling by train can be a convenient way to get around the country if you don't have a car, but public transport does come with its setbacks. Most commonly, trains can get very busy during peak times of day, with some passengers even having to stand up because there are no available seats left.
When trains are busy, it's common courtesy to move bags and other luggage off any seats next to you so that other passengers can sit down. You can hold your bag or use the overhead storage or luggage racks in these situations.
However, one woman who recently travelled home from work by train was left baffled when another passenger demanded she move her bag - and she even refused to comply with their request.
In a video on TikTok, Tasha explained she had a "pretty big" bag with her, but when she got on the train there were "loads of seats available" so she sat down in a free two-seat space and thought nothing of it.
Tasha made it clear that when she sat down, she did not put her bag on the seat next to her, but instead kept hold of it on her lap so that if someone did need the seat beside her, they could still sit down.
At the next stop, another woman boarded the train and chose to sit "right next" to Tasha - despite there still being plenty of empty seats in the carriage. She did her best to squeeze her bag so it was as small as possible, but couldn't understand why the woman had chosen to sit next to her in the first place.
A few minutes later, while Tasha was minding her own business and looking out of the window, the woman "shoved" her and began shouting at her to move her bag.
She said: "I look at her in shock and she goes, 'Move your f***ing bag'. She came in strong, she was not playing. Bear in mind, it's one of those long bags and I was literally trying to push it together for the whole journey. It's not like I'd just dumped my massive bag on my lap."
Tasha said she apologised to the woman and explained she was trying to "compress" her bag as much as possible, but there was a lot inside it, so she wasn't having much luck.
This wasn't good enough for the other passenger, who began swearing at her and raising her voice, demanding that the bag be moved. Tasha then pointed out several other seats the woman could have sat in, including other empty two-seat spaces that would give the woman more space.
The woman claimed that wasn't the point as Tasha doesn't "own" the seats. After things escalated further and she tried to "shove" her once again, Tasha said she had had enough and got up to move the seats herself.
She explained: "I thought, I'm actually scared of you. As much as I want to stand my ground, I'm worried you're going to do something. I just got my stuff and moved to an empty seat. And not one [other passenger] said a thing, even though I could see people were literally gobsmacked."
Commenters on the post expressed sympathy for Tasha. Many said she shouldn't have had to move seats. They also recommended that she report the incident to the British Transport Police.
One person said: "She was absolutely looking to pick a fight with you. I'd call British Transport Police, give them the details of the train. There's surely CCTV. This is assault, and she can't get away with it."
Another added: "Sadly, there are people in this world who are just so miserable and out to cause hurt for other people. Don't let people like this get in your head."
