Footage has been posted on social media showing a hotel worker removing towels left on sunbeds by holidaymakers. The video posted on TikTok shows the staff member collecting towel after towel from loungers seemingly left by cheeky guests trying to reserve their spots in the sun by a hotel pool. The clip has been viewed more than 40,000 times and prompted over 7,000 comments.
It shows the worker walk past sun lounger after sun lounger picking up brightly coloured beach towels until his arm is loaded with them. At one point during the 30 second clip, the man can be seen removing a large towel used to cover the backs of three loungers.
His actions received widespread praise among TikTok users, some of whom shared their own experiences of securing a sun lounger on their holidays. A TikTok user with an account named "I am spartacus" recommended: "All hotels should do this." A second, "rae" simply quipped: "Pay rise for this guy."
Fellow TikTok user "Narelle Tanner" said they removed some towels from chairs when no one showed up after an hour of waiting. They said a German man came back, kicked the chair and "tried to bully" her to get off it.
TikTok user "darrenbishop298" commended the hotel worker, commenting: Fair play. You can’t walk into a restaurant in the morning and put your coat on a chair. Then come back that night and say that’s my table!
"Anyone that’s traveled (sic) around Europe knows which nationality does this!"
A number of TikTik users were full of praise for the hotel worker. One commenting from an account named "ssj4_s" said: "This man needs a medal." Another, "Suzi", said: "Respect to that man!"
Another TikTok user, "ni", shared an approach taken by a hotel they stayed in which they said was the "best". They explained: "You could not take your own towels and had to use theirs. They were handed out as you went to the pool and retrieved when you left. It stopped this."
"Djnitro" shared their own defiant solution: "I just pull up and sit down, if you aren’t in the seat it’s free to use. There’s no reserves lol. People hate it and I don’t care."
