A man is said to have been arrested after being caught smoking on a flight from Manchester to Tenerife. The Canarian Weekly reports that his actions prompted the pilot to call the police, with officers waiting when the aircraft landed.
The flight was bound for Tenerife South airport on Thursday with fellow passengers said to have been "stunned" by the man's behaviour. National Police officers were waiting to escort the offender off the aircraft.
Crew members are said to have been "forced to intervene". Smoking on commercial flights has been banned since the 90s, with strict laws in place to protect health and safety.
Canarian Weekly has not named the airline involved, though added that it has yet to confirm the consequences the man caught smoking now faces. However, penalties for such actions can be severe.
