The Beatles legend Paul McCartney didn’t hold back as he blasted President Donald Trump and shared his irritation at the politician. The iconic singer even cryptically slammed Trump in his 2018 studio album, Egypt Station which aired his views about the US leader.
As well as branding him a "braggart" on the song, among other descriptors, Paul issued a brutal three-word verdict insulting the 78-year-old’s intelligence. In the 2018 publication of his book, The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, McCartney shared the truth behind his song Despite Repeated Warnings. The icon revealed the track was inspired by the “existential threat” posed by climate change and Trump's apparent indifference.
As he explained the song, McCartney said that Trump is "not the smartest” leader the globe has ever encountered.
The lyrics read: “Despite repeated warnings of dangers up ahead, the captain won't be listening to what's been said.”
As well as: “Those who shout the loudest, may not always be the smartest.”
In the book, the legend outlined: “We're faced with the political situation, particularly in the US, where a braggart has been in charge and seems quite unstable, to say the least.
“He's shouting the loudest, but he's not necessarily the smartest.”
McCartney added: “I often think, 'How can a person get away with some of the things he says?’
“But then, two days later, the news cycle will have brought us something else he's said, and then the thing we thought the person would never get away with has gone, and it's difficult to bring it back.”
In an interview with BBC about the song, McCartney said: “[The song] basically says, 'occasionally, we've got a mad captain sailing this boat we're all on and he is just going to take us to the iceberg [despite] being warned it's not a cool idea.’”
He then clarified: “Well I mean, obviously it's Trump. But I don't get too involved because there's plenty of them about. He's not the only one.”
