When a young Princess Charlotte was just four-years-old she refused to give up a gift presented to her on Christmas Day during the walkabout at Sandringham Estate in 2019. Charlotte, joined her mum, Princess Kate, after the service as they spoke to well-wishers outside the church.
During the interaction, the little Princess was presented with a bunch of white roses by one fan - and she clearly took a liking to them, and held onto them tightly. Palace aides usually take charge of bouquets so members of The Firm can continue to meet members of the public with ease.
However, when an aide offered to carry Charlotte's flowers, she firmly shook her head and refused to let them go, and walked all the way back to the Sandringham Estate with the bouquet.
Speaking several years ago, royal expert Katie Nicholl told the Mirror: "Charlotte is the most buoyant and outgoing of the three Cambridge children. It's that strength of character that will stand her in good stead when she's older."
According to the late Queen Elizabeth II, she once described her great-granddaughter's personality, as endearing. Per Town & Country, when late Queen asked a student in 2018 at an engagement if she looked after her younger sister, the girl's mother replied, "It's the other way around," to which the monarch responded, "It's like that with Charlotte and George".
A royal historian Marlene Koenig once reported Charlotte to be "the boss" She said: "[Kate] describes Charlotte as independent and ‘the one in charge.’"
William has hinted as much as in November, when he revealed that she initially made him shave off his new beard. "Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears … Then I grew it back, and I convinced her it was going to be OK."
Back in June 2024, Charlotte also appeared to help her mother, the Princess of Wales, keep her younger brother in check during Trooping the Colour, showing her caring side. Louis, at the time, appeared bored, during the long, formal event and was seen scrunching his face and yawning.
According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, the Princess, now 10, scolded her dancing brother, and said: "You have to stop doing that. Watch the parade", to which he bluntly replied: "I won't."
Today marks Charlotte's 10th birthday. The young princess is third in the line of succession to the throne, and was pictured wearing a mountain backpack with a camouflage-style coat and blue trousers in her birthday image.
It marks a return to the children's portraits being taken by Kate, a keen amateur photographer who regularly takes images of her children to mark official special occasions.
