UK holidaymakers are being faced with a number of strict tourism restrictions at a number of extremely popular destinations. However, there is one sunny spot boasting warm temperatures and beautiful landscapes where Brits can escape without facing new rules.

Thassos, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea is a great alternative to more crowded islands such as Crete and Mykonos, both of which welcome millions of tourists every year. Thassos is Greece's northerly island, and while it may be slightly cooler than islands in the south, the gorgeous destination still boasts temperatures of up to 23 degrees.

And when it comes to making the most out of the balmy weather, people are most definitely spoiled for choice with all the relaxing coastal spots.

The island's coastline stretches 95 kilometres and contains around 60 beaches, reports The Telegraph. The abundance of choice means, whether you're looking for a spot to sunbathe, wanting to explore, or participate in some watersports, there is something for you.

According to TripAdvisor, Thassos' Golden Beach, rated 4.4 stars, is the island's best - an opinion backed by one Greek who visited from Italy. The visitor said: "Being a Greek I have to say this beach is among the top beaches in the country.

"Very broad, full of sand, great waters. Ideal for families. All amenities are there, easy to reach, plenty of parking, restaurants, supermarket in five minute's walking distance. Great views to the mountains on your back."

Paradise Beach is renowned for its tropical-like atmosphere surrounded by lush vegetation and featuring soft white sand accompanied by turquoise waters. The dreamy spot, likened by some to the stunning sights of the Caribbean, is perfect for a relaxing swim.

As with plenty of Greek destinations, Thassos is rooted in a rich history that can be experienced through the island's archeological remains and pretty little villages. Limenas, also known as Thassos Town, is the island's capital and is the ultimate place for history lovers.

Whilst on a summer stroll, explorers will find the remains of the Gates of Zeus and Hera, the Ancient Theatre of Thassos, and an Ancient Agora. There's also an archaeological museum full of artefacts from various time periods, which is named by TripAdvisor as the number one thing to do in the town.

One visitor, which emphasised that it is "worth a visit" said: "The archaeological museum of Thassos is very interesting and worth visiting even with small children. Thassos has a very long history and many archaeological finds have been preserved."
