Meghan Markle was allegedly interested in getting designer swag freebies after joining the Royal Family, a royal author has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex joined the Royal Family in 2018 after her marriage to Prince Harry, but left two years later for a new life in Montecito, California.
According to royal author and journalist Tina Brown, Meghan obtained freebies when she ran her now defunct blog, The Tig. She wrote in her book The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor, the Truth and the Turmoil: "She [Meghan] won a reputation among the marketers of luxury brands of being warmly interested in receiving bags of designer swag."
Ms Brown said that following the wedding, a member of Meghan's new team wrote to a publicist to say: "Make sure [the publicist] knows that she can still send me anything. She’s always been one of the good ones."
Ms Brown further told The Washington Post: "They wanted to be able to have a commercial arm to their activities. That was the stumbling block. Meghan certainly saw the deals that were there to be made because they were royals."
"It's as though she couldn't resist everything that was on offer on the celebrity buffet. A hunger to avail herself of the global leverage, to live in glorious houses without strings attached."
Regarding their bombshell exit in 2020, the royal author said: "I really think Harry wanted out, himself. Meghan gave Harry the tools to leave."
"She understood the world of agents and deals. I mean, this wasn’t Harry’s world, but suddenly he had in Meghan, a very worldly strategist who he decided to trust above all the other advisors.
"I think they both completely underestimated what it was going to be like without the Palace platform."
Now Meghan Markle has created a brand of her own 'As Ever', which officially launched earlier this year.
Meghan honored the launch of As Ever on her Instagram, sharing pictures of her products on a sun-soaked tablescape. "We’re live! Come shop the As ever collection I’ve poured so much love into. So excited to share this with you," she wrote. "Limited quantities for each seasonal drop."
In less than one hour, all her products sold out. The As Ever launch came nearly two months after Meghan announced she would be refreshing her brand, previously named American Riviera Orchard.
On March 4, Meghan’s new Netflix show released on the streaming platform 'With Love, Meghan'. The eight-part series followed Meghan's hosting and cooking tips inside a Montecito, California kitchen and a second season will be released in the autumn.
