Emergency services raced to the scene near the B946 near Tayport, a short distance from the Tay Road Bridge, at around 9.40am on Friday, May 2.
Public access to the shore is said to be restricted at present.
HM Coastguard has confirmed their presence at the location.
The investigation into the "unexplained" death is actively underway, reports the Daily Record.
A representative for Police Scotland stated: "Around 9.40am on Friday, 2 May, we received a report of a body on a beach off the B946 at Tayport.
"Emergency services attended and the body of a woman was recovered.
"The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
