The tight-fitting Americana Bodysuit that helped make the US actress a global sex symbol will be auctioned in Los Angeles.
The original star-spangled outfit – the last one she wore throughout the show’s final season in 1979 – comes complete with “Bracelets of Submission” made from hammered brass that hang from special hooks on the legendary costume.
Lynda, now 73, was paid a mere £65 a week to shoot the pilot but ended up on a then super-sized salary of £4,500 per episode after the series, which ran for three years from 1976, become a hit.
The former Miss USA, who represented her country at Miss World 1972 in London’s Royal Albert Hall, recalled: “It never felt sexy to me and I never imagined I’d become a pin-up wearing it.
“But it did make me feel empowered, so it helped my performance even though it could be uncomfortable and a bit of a squeeze to get into.”
The Wonder Woman bodysuit will take centre stage at a two-day auction of TV memorabilia on Wednesday and Thursday titled Channel Surfing: A Broadcast to Binge Auction.
Fans will also be able to bid on Wonder Woman’s famous Lasso of Truth prop, made from threaded, gold-tone cord rope, that Lynda was seen wielding numerous times. It is expected to fetch £15,000.
Other items under the hammer at the event, hosted by Julien’s Auctions, include the green Riddler jacket and waistcoat, festooned with question marks, that actor Frank Gorshin wore in 1966 for the pilot of TV’s original Batman series.
