Nestled along the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, Marlow is a picturesque town that effortlessly blends natural beauty, rich history, and contemporary charm. Often hailed as one of the UK's best-kept secrets, Marlow offers a serene escape just over an hour from London.

Marlow's history is deeply intertwined with the Thames. The town's most iconic landmark, the Marlow Suspension Bridge, was completed in 1832 and designed by William Tierney Clark, a civil engineer who also designed the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest.

This Grade I-listed bridge connects the town to Higginson Park, a 23-acre riverside park perfect for leisurely walks and picnics.

Nearby, All Saints' Church stands as a testament to the town's architectural heritage. The churchyard offers stunning views of the river and the bridge, making it a popular spot for visitors.

Marlow has become a culinary hotspot, attracting food enthusiasts from near and far. The Hand & Flowers, owned by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, is the only pub in the UK to hold two Michelin stars. One delighted TripAdvisor reviewer wrote: “Wow!!!! I’ve eaten in a lot of restaurants in my life and this might just be the best.”

For those seeking traditional British fare, The Oarsman offers a delightful Sunday roast. Additionally, the town boasts a variety of independent eateries, including the Compleat Angler Hotel, which offers riverside dining experiences.

Marlow also boasts a rich literary heritage. The town was home to Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife Mary, who wrote horror classic Frankenstein during their residence at Albion House on West Street.

T.S. Eliot also lived in Marlow after World War One. He moved there in 1917, during the war, and stayed for a short period while working at Lloyds Bank in London.

The Two Brewers pub, located on St Peter Street, is where Jerome K. Jerome penned his humorous novel Three Men in a Boat. You can still visit this historic pub today, with TripAdvisor reviews praising it as “warm and friendly,” and the food described as “excellent.”

For outdoor enthusiasts, Marlow offers a range of activities. The Thames Path National Trail runs through the town, providing scenic walks along the river.

The Marlow Circular Walk, starting from Higginson Park, leads through woodlands and past historic sites. In June, the town hosts the Marlow Regatta and Festival, celebrating life on the river with rowing races, traditional stalls, fine cuisine, music, and riverside activities.
