David Beckham was reportedly left "heartbroken" when his son Brooklyn did not attend his birthday bash in London on Saturday evening (May 3). The former pro footballer celebrated turning 50 in style with a dinner party at Michelin-star restaurant Core by Clare Smyth. The event was attended by an A-list group of friends, including Tom Cruise, Gary Neville, and Gordon Ramsay.

However, David's oldest son, Brooklyn, 26, was noticeably absent. According to the Daily Mail, he flew back to the US with his wife Nicola Peltz before the celebrations kicked off on Saturday. Brooklyn's no show is allegedly nothing to do with his dad, but the result of an ongoing feud with his brother, Romeo.

TMZ previously reported the brothers had fallen out over Brooklyn's alleged suspicions surrounding Romeo's current girlfriend, Kim Turnbul.

Insiders close to the family claimed Brooklyn had a short romance with Kim before she got together with Romeo, and the older brother has allegedly questioned what the model's motives are for dating two brothers in the same family.

Because of this rift, sources say Brooklyn has made it clear he and his wife will not attend any family gatherings where Kim is present. This has applied to events held by both parents, as Brooklyn and Nicola were also absent from Victoria's fashion show in March.

A source close to the Beckhams spoke to the Express exclusively: "David and Victoria already knew Brooklyn wouldn't be at the big party in London. Brooklyn had already celebrated his dad at a private smaller family event. Nevertheless both Victoria and David were disappointed that it has gotten to this and they can feel a wedge growing between them. Apparently Victoria has said she doesn't want this fall out to become like Prince Harry and the royals with their son living in America with his wife while his family stay in the UK."

The Sun also spoke to a friend of the family who called Brooklyn's absence at David's birthday dinner "a dagger to the heart". The source said: "David is heartbroken but putting a brave face on it. Tonight is all about celebration and love, and he is swimming in it. Brooklyn actually informed his parents a while ago that he and his wife, Nicola, would not be attending but, of course, David and Victoria desperately hoped he would change his mind.

"It’s a dagger to the heart that he hasn’t attended a single one of David’s 50th celebrations - and hurts the whole family including the grandparents and siblings. Brooklyn is a really sweet boy and everyone loves him dearly. They just hope things can be patched up soon. In the mean time, everyone around David are doing all they can to give him a magical evening to remember."

Despite the family politics, the event seemed to be a success as family and friends arrived to celebrate David's 50th dolled up to the nines. Victoria dazzled in a white silky gown, while her sons Romeo and Cruz wore matching white suits fit for the black tie event.

Diners were served a special three course menu cooked by chef Clare Smyth herself. Florists decorated the venue with white and pink peonies and foliage before the guests arrived.

David previously took to social media with a charming message to everyone he wanted to thank for making his life so wonderful ahead of his birthday bash. The former sportsman wrote: "As I reflect on this Birthday I'm very grateful for many things in my life the teams I've played for, my team mates, managers, the fans, MY COUNTRY and being England captain, the children I have met over different charities I work with my team in my business & the friends I have around me I feel truly blessed...

"But my biggest accomplishment is and will always be my family, my mum and dad who sacrificed so much for me to live my dream of becoming a footballer, my sisters who had to put up with following there brother around in the freezing cold watching me play football and my amazing nan and grandad.

"My wife and best friend of 28 years and my beautiful children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz & Harper you are the reason I get out of bed each day thank you for making me smile and thank you for making me a better man. I love you all so much and thank you for making today so special for me... You are my world."
