The picturesque village of West Wittering, considered one of Britain’s most “beautiful corners”, hosts houses owned by myriad famous faces, from Hollywood actresses to rock and roll icons. The celebrity hotspot, situated on the coast of West Sussex, features tranquil country lanes, a dune-backed Blue Flag beach, and a smattering of cosy pubs and dog-friendly restaurants.
If a UK staycation is on the cards for summer 2025, then West Wittering features a plethora of luxury lodges to rent. Charming bed and breakfasts situated on the seafront are also available temporarily, while self-catering cottages, perfect for precious family get-togethers, are also available to hire.
Chichester Harbour offers chartered boats, meaning you can go bird and seal watching. Meanwhile, eateries, including The Lamb Inn, The Beach Cafe and The Wittering, are highly recommended on Tripadvisor by locals and tourists of the “stardusted hotspot” alike.
If you and your family have a streak of adventure coursing through your veins, then the Natural Surf company, situated close by in East Wittering, offer a range of activities for all ages and abilities. If the sea isn’t on your side, the business also puts on yoga and skateboarding classes.
A trip to West Wittering beach—situated a mere 55-minute drive from Surrey—may also see you rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. In 2015, Titanic star Kate Winslet, 49, moved to the sleepy village, which boasts charming views of the South Downs beyond.
Kate’s eight-bedroom property, known as Westcote Manor, is surrounded by 22 acres of land, according to Architectural Digest.
The Grade II-listed house also has a basement, swimming pool, pool house and garage. It’s understood to be worth over £4million, as per a report by Sussex Live.
In 2019, Kate offered fans a sneak peek into her home as she shot scenes for the film Blackbird inside the mansion.
Interestingly, the Academy Award-winning actress isn’t the only celebrity to put down roots in West Wittering.
81-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards also resides in the paradisal village, having purchased his infamous Grade II Redlands Cottage in 1966.
It’s understood that a few months after he purchased Redlands, Keith dug into his pockets to purchase the cottage across the road for an additional £5,000.
The idyllic West Sussex village is also where Only Fools and Horses legend Nicholas Lyndhurst lives with his wife, Lucy.
The 64-year-old, best known for his role as Rodney Trotter in the BBC sitcom, actually grew up around the area and is often spotted by fans at one of the village’s beach cafes, according to The Telegraph. He also attended neighbouring East Wittering Primary school as a child.
If West Wittering sounds like your cup of tea, then other areas such as Mawgan Porth and Padstow in Cornwall, Sandringham in Norfolk and Great Tew in the Cotswolds should also appeal.
