Prince Louis could barely contain his excitement as he watched a stunning flypast on the Buckingham Palace balcony this afternoon.

Louis, along with his siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte, parents Prince Wiliam and Princess Kate and the rest of the Royal Family, were in attendance to celebrate VE Day today.

NATO allies and 1,300 members of the UK armed forces marched down the Mall in front of the royals, kicking off a week of celebration to mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Louis, who celebrated his seventh birthday last month, was his usual excitable self, with a lip reader spotting his adorable conversations on the balcony. Jeremy Freeman caught Princess Kate asking her youngest: "You excited?" Louis quickly replied: "Yes. Over there, Red Arrows!"

As the iconic planes soared overhead, the seven-year-old screamed: "Yeah, yes! That's so loud." He then delivered a touching four-word comment: "What a wonderful day." Kate, clearly enjoying how much Louis was loving what he was seeing, responded: "Yes, ha ha."

There may be a very special reason why Louis was so fascinated by the flypast. Back in 2023, the young prince revealed his ambitions to be a fighter pilot when he grows up. When asked by a volunteer at The Big Help Out during Coronation weekend that he might want to become an artist when he's older, Louis replied: "No, I want to be a fighter pilot."

Earlier in the day, Louis was caught on camera repeatedly brushing Prince William's right shoulder, seemingly attempting to remove dust or dirt. Fans rushed to X to comment on the hilarious antics, dubbing it "so adorable".

And in another hilarious moment from the day, Louis appeared to mock his older brother George. At one point, George seemed to fix his hair and Louis seized the moment to mimic the action.

Following the parade today, George attended a veterans’ tea party with his parents, where he and William spoke with 101-year-old Royal Engineers veteran Alfred Littlefield who served during D-Day.

William smiled as he shook hands with veterans and said it was “very important” for George and the “next generation” to hear the stories from those who fought in the war.

George listened intently to the conversation, with William later telling veteran Douglas Hyde that his son was "very keen" to ask the former serviceman some questions.

After their conversation, Mr Littlefield’s granddaughter Samantha Davidson, 58, from Denmead in Hampshire, told PA: “The Prince said George is very interested in finding out about the veterans. George even asked my grandfather how old he was during his service.”

The King and Queen are “looking forward” to the week’s events, and it is understood that, out of respect for the surviving veterans, Buckingham Palace hopes “nothing will detract or distract from celebrating with full cheer and proud hearts that precious victory and those brave souls, on this most special and poignant of anniversaries”.
