A stunning stretch of coastline that “warrants weeks of exploration” according to National Geographic, is also home to one of the best coastal walks. Northumberland is no stranger to beautiful natural sights that include diverse and dramatic landscapes. Whether it's exploring the reregion’s rolling hills and vast moorlands or exploring its ancient castles or simply relaxing on its untouched coastlines, it has it all.

Best of all, Northumberland offers relative remoteness with far less crowds, making it the epitome of a relaxing weekend break. A firm favourite among visitors to this spot is most certainly leisurely strolls along its picturesque coastline with one seaside walk even being labelled “England’s best”.

The North East county is a spot that’s famed for its golden beaches and lush countryside with travel experts across the world singing its praises.

One such praise comes from the US publication, National Geographic who declared it “has it all” with its numerous attractions on offer to visitors warranting “weeks of exploration".

One stretch along its coast was even hand-picked as the top spot to go to when visiting Northumberland and is a 10-mile walk from Craster to Seahouses.

This trail encompasses the ancient ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, while also taking in the sights of the seaside village of Beadnell.

It also passes Seahouses which is a region famed for its beauty and was even picked by Mumsnet parents as the number one place to visit for a UK staycation.

The 9.9-mile walk is considered moderately challenging with sturdy walking shoes recommended due to its urban pathways, coastal terrain and sandy beaches you pass along the way.

So beautiful is this coastal walk, it was even declared to be "regularly cited as one of the country's best walks", added National Geographic.

The walking trail takes roughly four hours to complete and, if traveling by car, the villages of Craster and Seahouses are only 20 minutes apart.

Craster boasts of having the Royal Family among their fans and with its endless sea views and rare wildlife on offer, it's easy to see why.

Oystercatchers, dunlin, ringed plover, turnstones, and redshanks are just some of the wildlife-spotting opportunities available here.

History buffs will undoubtedly also be in their element here, with many opportunities to explore remains of the country’s ancient history with a visit just up the coast to Alnmouth being highly recommended after recently being named “one of Britain's 30 greatest villages”.

Other surrounding spots well worth a visit here include Lindisfarne which is accessible via a causeway only at certain times which then leads you to a small island that even has its own castle.
