The man who was stabbed to death in a Lloyds bank in Derby has been named locally. The victim has been identified locally as Danny, whose real name is Gurvinder Singh Johal, the owner of the Hen and Chickens Bar and Grill restaurant in Shelton Lock, according to Derbyshire Live.
The man, who was a customer, was stabbed inside the Lloyds bank in St Peter’s Street at around 2.35pm on Tuesday afternoon. Police said a man in his 40s was arrested at a property in Western Road, Normanton, at around 6pm on suspicion of murder. A man in his 30s was also arrested at the same property on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A 33-year-old woman also sustained injuries that are not currently believed to be life-threatening during the incident.
Close friend Councillor Ajit Atwal, leader of the Lib Dem group on Derby City Council, said: "It's a sad day for Derby. He was the most hard-working and devoted family man. It makes no sense what has happened. Something must have gone terribly wrong for him to be killed in this way.
"He was a good businessman and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He was humble, quiet and a kind guy and would always go above and beyond for everyone.
"His family are devastated and cannot understand what has happened. He was just getting on with his life - it's just senseless."
Speaking on Tuesday, Detective Inspector Clare Gibson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This will have been devastating news for the victim’s loved ones to receive.
“Our thoughts remain with them during this incredibly difficult time.
“At this stage, we believe this to be an isolated incident and there to be no wider risk to the public.
“Investigations are at an early stage, but we can confirm that we’ve arrested two men on suspicion of murder.
“While we’d remind people not to speculate online about what might have happened, anyone who has any information that could assist our inquiries should contact us immediately.”
Assistant Chief Constable Suk Verma added: “Two suspects were arrested very quickly after the incident was reported to the police, but I appreciate news of what happened will have caused alarm to the local community.
“A murder investigation is currently in its early stages, although based on information received, I am confident that this is an isolated incident.
“We will be increasing visible patrols around Bulwell and my neighbourhood officers, as always, will be available to answer questions from public.”
